The Government of Brazil modified the List of Exceptions to the Common External Import Tariffs (LETEC) leading to the change in import duties on 8 tariff lines.

Import tariff quota

On 7 December 2018, the  Brazilian Foreign Trade Council has issued Resolution 98 reducing the import duties for a certain quota on 4 tariff lines. The affected tariff subheadings have been NCM 1107.10.10, 2833.29.60, 2902.43.00 and 3908.10.24. The new import duties have been set as it follows:

  • NCM 1107.10.10 - Reduction of import duty from 14% to 2% for a quota of 400,000 tonnes valid during the period extending between 22 December 2018 and 21 December 2020. Previously to this Resolution, a similar tariff rate quota applied but only for 156,531 tonnes (please see related state acts).
  • NCM 2833.29.60 - Reduction of import duty from 7% to 2% for a quota of 50,000 tonnes and a twelve-month period. Previously to the new legislation, no import tariff reduction applied to this tariffs subheading.
  • NCM 2902.43.00 - Reduction of import duty from 4% to 0% for a quota of 290,000 tonnes valid during the period extending between 22 December 2018 and 21 December 2020. Previously to this Resolution, a reduced 2% tariff rate quota applied for 180,000 tonnes (please see related state acts).
  • NCM 3908.10.24 - Reduction of import duty from 14% to 2% for a quota of 7,000 or 7,200 tonnes, depending on the product valid for twelve months. Previously to the new legislation, no import tariff reduction applied to this tariffs subheading.

Import tariff

Resolution 98 that has been adopted by the Brazilian Foreign Trade Council on 7 December 2018, has also eliminated the import duty on tariffs subheadings NCM 3501.10.00, 8544.60.00 and 9508.90.90. The previously applicable import tariffs were set at 14%, 16% and 20% respectively.

Import tariff

The Brazilian Foreign Trade Council has also changed the import duty on NCM 9022.19.99 on Resolution 98. The new import tariff has been increased from 0% to 14% on 7 December 2018.
