On 23 November 2011, the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (i.e. BNDES by the acronym in Portuguese) announced the allocation of USD 900 million to credit lines listed in the "Canal MPME" for SMEs. The resources come from the BNDES and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).

The BNDES announced the allocation of USD 150 million to credit lines for national micro, small and medium-sized enterprises. 

Eligible enterprises shall demonstrate the administrative, technical, financial, legal and environmental capacity to carry out investments that will boost their productivity. 

The credits will be distributed through the "Canal MPME", a digital platform that allows entrepreneurs to submit online financing directly to accredited financial agents. 

The resources provided by the BNDES are to be complemented by funding from the IDB, and together they expect to finance nearly 5,000 SMEs.
