On December 1st, 2011, the Japanese Bank of International Cooperation (JBIC) signed a $60 million USD loan agreement with the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (BCIE) for the support of Japanese sourced renewable energy projects such as wind power generation, geothermal power generation, hydroelectric power generation etc. The loan will go to providing Japanese advanced environmental technologies and equipment to BCIE members (especially Central American members) for these projects.
