Still in force

Export ban

On 11 August 2009, the Indonesian Ministry of Trade published regulation 36/2009 banning the export of semi-finished rattan.

The ban came into force two months after the issuance of the regulation (11 October 2009) and was planned to be in force for two years.

According to numerous and consistent press reports, the ban was extended on 1 November 2011.

The ban only affects raw materials as well as semi-finished products. Rattan products (HS code 4601,4602,9401,9403) can still be exported.

The measure is intended to boost the domestic value added in the Indonesian rattan production. It was replaced by a more general regulation on export bans on 19 July 2012.
