Safeguard

On 19 December 2007, the Turkish authorities initiated a safeguard investigation on imports of certain electric appliances such as grinders, mixers, blenders, mincing appliances and toasters

On 22 August 2008 a safeguard duty was imposed, but certain developing countries were excluded.

On 7 May 2012 the Turkish authorities communicated an extension of the safeguard measures in force. Duties vary between USD 5.40 and 3.50 USD (in 2012) The measure finally expired on 31 October 2013.

On 1 November 2013, Turkey reintroduced the safeguard duties. The products subject to duties are classified under the following HS code subheadings: 8508.11; 8509.40; 8509.80; 8516.60; and 8516.31. The duty is imposed for a period of 2 years and varies between 5 and 3 USD per unit. With respect to the safeguard duties in 2011 and 2012, all duties decreased by 0.40-0.50 USD.
