The Agricultural Marketing Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture is increasing the assessment rate on first handlers and importers of mangos from 0.5˘ per pound to 0.75˘ per pound. The increase is permitted under the Mango Promotion, Research, and Information Order, which is authorized by the Commodity Promotion, Research, and Information Act of 1996. It is provided for in a Federal Register notice of April 12, 2012 (Vol.77 No.71) and takes effect September 1, 2012. The National Mango Board says that it recommended this action to ensure that the board's research and promotion programs continue to be adequately funded.
