Import tariff

On 8 August 2018, Sri Lanka through Extraordinary Gazette No. 2083/9  imposed a Special Commodity Levy of Rs. 10 per kg. on maize imports for a period of 6 months.

The SCL is a composite levy i.e. it replaces all other applicable import duties and taxes. Earlier, maize attracted a customs duty of 15%, a 15% VAT, a 7.5% Port and Airport Levy, 2% Nation Building Tax and 35% cess per kilogram of maize. Whether the applicable duty now is higher or lower will depend on the import price of maize.
