Following the announcement of the third list of China's goods subject to import tariffs in the US, the Chinese government reacted with their own list of tariffs on USD 60bn worth of Chinese imports from the United States.
The announcement, Shuiweihui Gonggao 2018/8, stated that items included in a previous announcement from August (Shuiweihui Gonggao 2018/6) would be subjected to the new tariffs. The rates, however, were altered in this September announcement.
From September 24th, 2018, the following tariffs will come into force:
In total, 5,207 tariff lines were affected by the announcement. Affected items include light aircraft, computers, textiles, chemicals, meat and wine. Please see taxonomy section for full details.
UPDATE: On December 14th, the State Council Tariffs and Tax Standards Commission released Shuiweihui Gonggao 2018/10, which cancelled some of the tariffs pursuant to talks at the G20 summit. 67 automotive-related products from the September announcement had their tariffs waived, all of them from the 5% category.
The cancelled tariffs are scheduled to last from January to March of 2019, depending on negotiations.
UPDATE 2: In May 2019, the Chinese government raised tariffs to the levels originally proposed in Shuiwehui Gonggao 2018/6, except for those included in the list of supplementary tariffs cancelled in December, as described in 'UPDATE' above.
UPDATE 3: 60 products had their tariffs cancelled in February 2020. Please see related act for more information.
