On 26 June 2018, the Afreximbank and the ECIC announced the South African-Africa Trade and Investment Promotion Programme (SATIPP). The new programme shall promote trade between South Africa and other African countries. The funds made available by both institutions sum up to USD 1 billion. The official press release does not state what portion of that sum is attributable to either of the founding institutions.

The institutions aim to identify, assess and approve trade projects and transactions; co-finance export/import initiatives; minimize trade risks; and invest in knowledge sharing and technical training.
