Import tariff

On 19 July 2018, the Secretary of Industry of the Ministry of Production of Argentina passed Resolution 67/2018 approving the import tariff reduction on circa 130 auto parts not produced in the country. The new duty has been reduced to 2% while according to the WTO import tariffs database, previous duty values ranged 3% and 1667%.

The duty reduction is part of the Common Automobile Policy of Argentina and Brazil.

This Resolution entered into force on 20 July 2018.

The regime of not locally produced auto-parts
The regime of reduced import duties for not-locally produced auto-parts applies to imports from countries outside Mercosur and it is the result of the XXXVIII Additional Protocol to the Economic Complementation Agreement Nº 14 signed between Argentine and Brazil in June 2008.

Under this scheme, Mercosur countries can identify automobile parts and components that are not produced in the region and reduce their import duties to 2%. However, if local regional production of those products starts, the affected goods are removed from the list of benefiting products and the Common External Import Tariff is restored.

This regime has a temporary character and applies until 30 June 2020.

Update
