Import tariff

On 15 August 2018, the Turkish authorities amended the import tariffs imposed on a number of goods from the United States in June 2018, see related state act. The duty was imposed in reaction to the US steel and aluminum safeguard duties and follows Turkey's notification to the WTO in May on the suspension of concessions and other obligations stipulated in WTO Safeguard Agreement, see related state acts.

More specifically, as of 15 August 2018, the government of Turkey increased the import tariff level by 100% on the following products originating from the United States of America: coal, coke, nuts, rice, tobacco, plastics, paper, vehicles, alcohol, coal, nuts, cosmetics and a number of technology products.

Notably, a number of other countries also imposed retaliation measures in the form of duties in reaction to the imposition of steel and aluminum duties by the United States, see related state acts.

On 22 May 2019, the Turkish Government issued a Decree decreasing the tariffs on certain products originating from the United States by 50% (See Related State Act). With this Decree, this particular measure is terminated.
