In December 2017, the KfW IPEX-Bank announced it would partially finance the construction of two cruise ships for an American cruise line.

On 21 December 2017, the KfW IPEX-Bank announced providing EUR 686 million (USD 814.32 million) for the construction of two cruise ships constructed at the Meyer Turku shipyard in Finland and purchased by the American company Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. Several German manufacturers will supply ship parts for the construction of the cruise ships including the hull and the main engine which will be supplied by the Neptun Werft shipyard in Rostock, Germany.
