On April 3, 2012, the Government of Argentina introduced reference prices applicable to the importation of certain types of woven fabrics of cotton from Brazil, China and other countries.
The products subject to this measure are classified under the following tariff lines of the MERCOSUR's Harmonized System: 5211.12.00, 5211.20.20, 5211.32.00, 5211.39.00, 5211.42.10, 5211.42.90 and 5211.43.00.
These reference prices were effective April 5, 2012.
Argentina introduced reference values of precautionary nature forimported goods in June 2005 (in Spanish: valorescriteriodecarácterpreventivo). The statedpurpose is tostrengthencustomscontrolandpreventunder-invoicing. Importersarerequired toprovideguaranteesfor thedifference indutiesandtaxesifthedeclaredprice ofanimport islowerthanitsreferenceprice(see 7th GTA Report and 2014 National Trade Estimate Report).A list with all current import reference prices can be consulted under:www.afip.gov.ar/aduana/valoracion/valores.criterios.pdf
The Global Trade Alert designates countries as affected trading partners whose bilateral trade with the implementing jurisdiction has exceeded the minimum threshold of USD 1 million in the year prior to the imposition of a measure. Therefore, the affected countries enumerated by the Argentine government may not overlap completely with those identified by the GTA.
