On August 8th, 2018, the Chinese Ministry of Finance published its response to a new round of US tariffs that specifically targeted China.

The new round implicates trade in USD 16bn worth of goods: exactly the same as the US tariffs from the day prior.

The new tariffs are all at a supplementary 25% rate and go into effect on the 23rd August 2018.

The announcement stated that the new tariffs will follow the same implementation pattern as the previous round; please see related measure for more information.

UPDATE: On December 14th, the State Council Tariffs and Tax Standards Commission released Shuiweihui Gonggao 2018/10, which cancelled some of the tariffs pursuant to talks at the G20 summit. 116 automotive-related products from the August 8th announcement had their tariffs waived.

The cancelled tariffs are scheduled to last from January to March of 2019, depending on negotiations.

UPDATE 2: On September 11th, 2019, five items at HS six digit level had their supplementary tariffs suspended for one year, until September 2020. These were: nonionic surfactants, various lubricating oils and refined petroleum products. Please see related act for full information.
