Intellectual property protection

On March 18th, 2018, the Chinese Government announced it would be introducing a strict monitoring process regarding the extraterritorial transfer of domestic intellectual property (IP) rights.

Such rights can pertain to things such as circuit board schematics, patent applications, patent rights and plant strain rights.

Anything which is deemed as relating to 'national security or defence' is completely prohibited from transfer.

This measure represents a barrier to foreign businesses looking to set up subsidiaries of Chinese firms abroad, hence the red classification of this intervention.
