Price stabilisation

On 4 July 2018, the Indian Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved an increased in the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for several Kharif crops for the 2018-19 season. Kharif is the monsoon cropping season starting in July and ending in October. 

  • Common Paddy from INR 1550 (~USD 22.57) to INR 1750 (~USD 25.48) per quintal
  • Grade A Paddy from INR 1750 (~USD 25.48) to INR 1770 (~USD 25.77) per quintal
  • Hybrid Jowar from INR 1700 (~USD 24.75) to INR 2430 (~USD 35.38) per quintal
  • Maldandi Jowar from INR 1725 (~USD 25.11) to INR 2450 (~USD 35.67) per quintal
  • Bajra from INR 1425 (~USD 20.75) to INR 1950 (~USD 28.39) per quintal

According to several news reports, the higher MSP will increase the aggregate food subsidy by INR 11,000-15,000 crore.(USD 1.6 to USD 2.2 billion).
