The government of South Australia established a stamp duty surcharge on foreign purchases of residential real estate.

On 12 December 2017, the regional government of South Australia passed the Stamp Duties (Foreign Ownership Surcharge) Amendment Act 2017, introducing a 7% stamp duty surcharge on foreign acquisitions of a residential real estate. Previously to this legislation, no special stamp duty applied to foreign investors.
The new surcharge applies as from 1 January 2018.
