The South African Revenue Service (SARS) created 8 new eight-digits tariff lines to classify stranded wire, ropes and cables leading to a change in the customs duty rates.

Import tariff

On 15 June 2018, the South African Revenue Service (SARS) adopted Notice 603 creating eight new eight-digit tariff lines for stranded wire, ropes and cables.

With the changes introduced, the import duties set on seven of the newly created tariff lines have increased from 0% and 5% to 5% and 15%, in the cases of products classified under HS Code 731210, and from 0% to 15%, in the cases of products classified under HS Code 731290. The remaining tariff line has not experienced any import tariff change.

The tariff subheadings affected by the duty increase are 7312.10.17, 7312.10.23, 7312.10.24, 7312.10.27,  7312.10.30, 7312.90.20 and 7312.90.90.
