Public procurement localisation

On 27 December 2013, the Australian Parliament passed the Australian Job Act 2013 aiming at facilitating and incorporating the participation of Australian businesses in projects with capital expenditure of AUD 500 million (USD 444 million) or more.

The new bill establishes that in major projects an Australian Industry Participation (AIP) plan is required in which it is detailed how the local industry is expected to contribute and benefit from the project. The plan must also state how the local businesses will be assisted in longer-term participation.
