The Secretariat for Central American Economic Integration Process modified the duty-free import quotas granted to Guatemala on rice.

Import tariff quota

On December 4, 2015, the Secretariat for Central American Economic Integration Process (i.e COMIECO by its Spanish acronym) adopted Resolution 371-2015 increasing the duty-free import quota set on rice (HS Code 1006.10.90.00). The new quota was set at 19,000 metric tonnes whereas previously it was set at 17,500 metric tonnes (please, see related state acts).

The applicable import tariff outside the quota is 23.7%.

This Resolution only applied to Guatemala and entered into force on January 1, 2015, for a twelve-month period.

Update
On November 24, 2016, the COMIECO adopted Resolution 378-2016 setting a new import tariff quota on rice for 2016 (please, see related state acts).
