On 2 February 2018, the Indian Ministry of Commerce & Industry through Notification No. 48/2015-2020 removed the requirement to export onions only against a letter of credit and a Minimum Export Price (MEP).

The MEP was earlier reduced USD 850 to USD 700 per tonne on 19 January 2018.
