Import ban

The ministry of Trade and Industry of Egypt has imposed a temporary ban on imports of raw cotton until the local crops have been sold.
The Bank for Development and Agriculture credit has been allocated 50 million Egyptian pounds to buy raw cotton from local cooperatives due to the low international prices coupled with the high price expectation of farmers.

Update 06 September 2012:

The import ban was lifted in March 2012.
