Import-related non-tariff measure, nes

On 19 June 2009, the Indonesian government exempted 26 textile products from special import requirements (e.g. requirement of verification in the countries of origin; or requirement to be imported by producers importers). The exemptions are identified by comparing the appendices of the revised Minister of Trade Regulation on Textile Import Arrangement (No. 23/M-DAG/PER/ 6/2009) dated 19 June 2009 and the original Minister of Trade Regulation (No.15/M-DAG/PER/5/2008) dated 5 May 2008.
It should be noted that other products (such as HS numbers from 55.12 to 55.14) will still have to be imported by registered parties and to attach surveyor reports. Bisnis Indonesia argues that the latter is to maintain the competitiveness of the local industry.
According to an article by Bisnis Indonesiapublished on 4 July 2009, this is the third easing of such restrictions. In early 2008, for example, the government didn't require small textile importers to be registered.
The positively affected trading partners are identified as jurisdictionsthat export more than one million USDs to Indonesia in the respective HS tariff lines.
