Labour market access

With effect from 1 August 2011, the government of the Repbulic of Korea has amended the following aspects of the official reemployment process for foreign workers.
 

  • Shortening of application deadline for the renewal of the employment visa to 7 days. This is a reduction from 45 or 15 days depending on the duration of the contract to be renewed.
  • Reduction of minimum employment education for foreign workers from 20 to 16 hours.
  • Extended permission for employment agencies to represent a foreign worker in the application for employment permits. Under¬†the new regim employment agencies may also represent¬†ethnic Koreans of foreign nationality (category H-2). Prior to the change, employment agencies were only allowed to assist foreign nationals (category E-9).
