Import tariff

The Special Commodity Levy has been increased through Extraordinary Gazette No. 2032/11-2017 on sugar products. The SCL on white crystalline sugar has been increased from LKR 23 to LKR 31 per kg. while on other sugar products under HS 1701 from LKR 25 to LKR 33 per kg.

The amended SCL initially imposed for a period of 6 months has been extended for a year through Extraordinary Gazette No. 2058/30 (15 February 2018)  and Extraordinary Gazette No.  2084/30 (16 August 2018).

SCL is a composite import levy and while SCL is valid no other import or local duties are applicable on the import of these products.

The SCL on these products was withdrawn effective 18 September 2018 through Extraordinary Gazette No. 2089/19 (see related State Act).
