On 1 September 2017, the European Commission issued Regulation No. 2017/1517, increasing the import duty on maize, sorghum and rye from EUR 5.16 (USD 6.12) per tonne to EUR 10.95 (USD 12.99) per tonne. The products subject to import duties are classified under HS code subheadings 1002.10.00, 1002.90.00, 1005.10.90, 1005.90.00, 1007.10.90 and 1007.90.00. Reductions are available for specified ports of unloading. The duty was replaced by Regulation No. 2017/1835 in October 2017 (see related state act).
The import duty is imposed following the implementation of a flexible mechanism for import tariffs on grain imports (wheat, rye, maize and sorghum) in August 2010, see related state act.
