Import tariff

On 8 August 2017, the European Commission issued Regulation No. 2017/1434, re-introducing an import duty on maize, sorghum and rye. The rate of duty is EUR 5.16 (USD 6.07) per tonne. The import tariff was suspended in November 2014, see related state act. The products subject to import duties are classified under HS code subheadings 1002.10.00, 1002.90.00, 1005.10.90, 1005.90.00, 1007.10.90 and 1007.90.00. Reductions are available for specified ports of unloading. Individual tariff quotas are not affected. The duty was replaced by Regulation No. 2017/1517 in September 2017 (see related state act).

The import duty is imposed following the implementation of a flexible mechanism for import tariffs on grain imports (wheat, rye, maize and sorghum) in August 2010, see related state act.
