Export ban

On October 13, 2010, the Bolivian Government via Supreme Decree 671 established a temporary export ban on sugar cane in order to ensure the country's food security. 

Update
On June 1, 2011, Exempt Decree 893 removed the export ban on sugar cane (see related state acts).

Import tariff

On October 13, 2010, the Bolivian Government established a temporary duty-free import on sugar cane. The previous import duty was set at 10%. The new import duty set on Supreme Decree 0671 was in force until March 31, 2010.

This state act has the intention to ensure the country's food security.
