December 15th, 2008 - China's State Council Tariffs and Tax Standards Commission released its annual tariff adjustments to be executed from the beginning of 2009. Compared to 2008, several import tariffs have been lowered.

Import tariff

The December 2008 release from China's Tariffs and Tax Standards Committee reduced import tariffs on a total of 106 items. 101 of these were included in the 'provisional import tax update' list, plus five items, including strawberries, fruit and nuts and fermented beverages, which had their rates 'specially' reduced. 21 changes were made only for 2009.

72 were extended for at least one year.

N.B.: Some reductions come in the form of changing a per unit tariff to ad valorem. Please see official announcement for more details.

Export tax

In addition to the above import tariff reductions, the release also announced 30 export tariff reductions. See taxonomy section for details。 All were extended at least one year, with 25 continuing to be renewed as of 2017.
