Tax or social insurance relief

On July 18, 2017 the governor of Rhode Island signed into law a bill (H5777) that revises and renews that state’s incentives program for films and related activities. As originally enacted in 2006, the Rhode Island Motion Picture Production Tax Credit program provided a 25% transferable tax credit. It was available for any qualifying feature-length film, documentary production, video, video games, television series, or commercial made in Rhode Island in whole or in part. The new law restricted the scope of this credit by (1) removing video games from the scope of benefitting activities and (2) extending the duration of the program from July 1, 2021 to July 1, 2024.
