ANNOUNCEMENT 27 Jun 2017

In June 2017, the Commissioner of the Australian Anti-Dumping Commission initiated an antidumping investigation on imports of steel reinforcing bar from several countries as well as individual firms. A provisional duty was imposed in November 2017. In March 2018, a definitive duty was imposed.

Anti-dumping

The antidumping investigation was initiated on 27 June 2017. The products subject to investigation are classified under the following HS code subheading: 7213.10.00, 7214.20.00, 7227.90.10, 7227.90.90, 7227.90.90, 7228.30.10 70,7228.30.90 and 7228.60.10. The import origins targeted by the investigation are Greece, Indonesia, Spain for imports from the company Nervacero S.A, Chinese Taipei for imports from the company Power Steel Co. Ltd and Thailand. The investigation follows the application lodged by OneSteel Manufacturing Pty Ltd.

On 15 November 2017, the Australian authorities imposed provisional duties on imports of steel reinforcing bar from Greece, Indonesia, Spanish Nervacero S.A, Chinese Taipei for imports from the company Power Steel Co. Ltd and Thailand. The rate of duty on imports from Greece is 42.1%. The rate of duty on imports from Indonesia is 7.2%. The rate of duty on imports from Spanish Nervacero S.A is 7.5%. The rate of duty on imports from Chinese Taipei for imports from the company Power Steel Co. Ltd is 4.4%. The rate of duty on imports from Thailand is 9.6% or 12.2%.

On 8 March 2018, the Australian authorities imposed a definitive duty on imports of the subject good from Nervacero S.A (Spain), Power Steel (Chinese Taipei), Greece, Indonesia and Thailand. The rate of duty on imports from the Spanish company Nervacero S.A is 6.3%. The rate of duty on imports from Power Steel from Chinese Taipei is 4.4%. The rate of duty on imports from Greece is 42.1%. The rate of duty on imports from Indonesia is 9.3% or calculated based on floor price. The rate of duty on imports from Thailand is calculated based on floor price or is 9.3% or 11.9% depending on the company. The definitive duty is in force for a period of five years. The Anti-dumping notice imposing the definitive duty was issued on 7 March 2018.
