On 15 May 2017, the European Parliament voted on increasing the European Fund for Strategic Investments (EFSI), also known as the "EFSI 2.0".

The Parliament approved the increase of the EFSI from an investment target of 315 billion EUR (346 billion USD) to at least half a trillion euros (549 billion USD). The target level shall be reached by 2020.

According to a EC press release from 13 March 2017, the EFSI has so far conducted investments worth 177 billion EUR.

The EFSI is also known as the "Juncker Plan", as it was introduced by the European Commission president Jean-Claude Juncker to trigger more private investments into projects the European Union deems strategic.
