In May 2011, the government of India initiated a new anti-dumping investigation and in July 2012 a definitive antidumping duty was imposed. In July 2017, a sunset review was initiated and the definitive duty was extended in July 2018.

Anti-dumping

On 25 May 2011, the Indian authorities announced the initiation of anti-dumping investigation concerning imports of grinding media balls originating in China and Thailand. The concerned HS code is 7325.9100.

On 16 July 2012, the country announced the imposition of definitive anti-dumping duties on the subject product. the rate of duty on imports from China is USD 387.36 per tonne. The rate of duty on imports from Thailand is between USD 158.80 and 187 per tonne.

On 4 July 2017, the Indian Directorate General of Antidumping & Allied Duties, Ministry of Commerce and Industry initiated a sunset review of the antidumping duty imposed on the subject good from China and Thailand. This follows the application lodged by AIA Engineering Ltd and Webcast Steels Ltd.

On 13 June 2017, the Indian Ministry of Finance issued the Customs Notification extending the definitive anti-dumping duty for one year i.e. until 15 July 2018.

On 13 July 2018, the Indian authorities extended the definitive antidumping duty on imports of the subject good from China and Thailand following the conclusion of the sunset review. The rate of duty on imports from China is USD 387.36 per tonne. The rate of duty on imports from Thailand is USD 158.80 or 187 per tonne depending on the company. The duty is in force for a period of five years.
