ANNOUNCEMENT 15 May 2017

In May 2017, the Malaysian authorities initiated an antidumping investigation on imports of cold-rolled stainless steel in coils, sheets or in any other form with a certain thickness and width from China, the Republic of Korea, Chinese Taipei and Thailand. A provisional duty was imposed in October 2017 and in February 2018 a definitive duty was imposed.

Anti-dumping

The antidumping investigation was initiated on 15 May 2017. The products subject to investigation are classified under the following HS code subheadings: 7219.31.000, 7219.32.000, 7219.33.000, 7219.34.000, 7219.35.000, 7220.20.130, 7220.20.190 and 7220.20.900. The investigation follows the application lodged by Bahru Stainless Sdn Bhd.

On 12 October 2017, the Malaysian authorities imposed a provisional duty on imports of the subject good from China, Chinese Taipei, Thailand and the Republic of Korea. The rate of duty on imports from China is 14.64% or 23.95% of the CIF value depending on the company. The rate of duty on imports from the Republic of Korea is 7.27% of the CIF value. The rate of duty on imports from Chinese Taipei is between 13.77% and 52.17% of the CIF value depending on the company. The rate of duty on imports from Thailand is 24.88% or 111.61% of the CIF value depending on the company. The duty is in force until 8 February 2018.

On 8 February 2018, the Malaysian authorities imposed a definitive duty on imports of certain cold-rolled stainless steel in coils, sheets or in any other form from China, the Republic of Korea, Chinese Taipei and Thailand. The rate of duty on imports from China is 2.68% or 23.95% of the CIF value depending on the company. The rate of duty on imports from the Republic of Korea is 4.44% or 7.27% of the CIF value depending on the company. The rate of duty on imports from Chinese Taipei is between 2.79% and 14.02%% of the CIF value depending on the company. The rate of duty on imports from Thailand is 22.86% or 111.61% of the CIF value depending on the company. The duty is in force for a period of five years.
