Export ban

On 6 April 2018, the Indian Ministry of Commerce and Industry through Notification No. 01/2015-2020 removed all restrictions or prohibitions on the exports of edible oil except mustard oil. The exports of mustard oil will henceforth be permitted only in branded consumer packs of up to 5 kg. and a minimum export price of USD 900 per kg.

The Ministry had in March 2008 imposed an export ban on all edible oils. This ban was extended till date but with several exceptions including allowing exports of certain oils, allowing exports with packaging restrictions, imposing quantitative ceilings and minimum price restrictions (see related State Acts).
