Import tariff

On 26 November 2010 the European Commission decided to suspend the import tariffs of certain sugar (HS: 1701).

The reason for this measure is that according to the forecasts of the EU, the sugar balance for the EU in the year 2010/2011 would be negative.

"Any further shortfalls of imports threatens to disrupt the availability of supply of the European Union's sugar market and increase EU internal sugar market price." (par. (2), L312/14, Commission regulation No. 1100/2010)

The measure is of temporary nature, until 31 August 2011.
