Import tariff

On 8 May 2009, Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin signed into law an extension of the temporary import tariff levied on magnesium scrap metal and crowbars, which was first passed by the Russian legislature on 27 November 2006. The order maintains the tariff, which is levied at a rate of 5% against the declared value of the goods, for nine months. The announcement of the extension, which was posted on the website of the Ministry of Economic Development, was not accompanied by a discussion of the continued need for the temporary measure. The order came into effect one month after the release of the statement (8 June 2009).
