On 23 February 2011, the Indonesian Finance Ministry published regulation 13/PMK.011/2011 temporarily lifting import duties for designated food products and food components after it had increased the tariffs on 22 December 2010 (cf. Related Measures). Based on a statement by USDA Indonesia, the temporary lifting of the tariffs was a result of protest from the industry and anticipated increased food and feed prices.
According to the regulation, the duty free import of these products had been possible since 24 January 2011 and is authorized to remain duty free until 31 December 2011.
From 1 January 2012, these products will become subject to an import duty of 5 percent. The re-introduction of the tariff was reported in regulation 213/PMK.011/2011.
