On February 17, 2011, the Government of Brazil announced the temporary tariff reduction of the Most Favored Nation (MFN) import duties applicable to certain capital and integrated systems goods.
The 'ex-tarifarios regime' established under the Brazilian legislation authorizes the temporary reduction of the MFN import duties applicable to the importation of capital and information technology goods, its parts, pieces and components. The temporary reduction may take place whenever the authorities find that there is no domestic production of these goods. To implement these reductions, the Brazilian authorities are allowed to create new tariff lines.
Through this resolution, the Brazilian Government established that certain goods classified under the following tariff chapters will be subject to a 2% import duty:73, 82, 84, 85, 86, 87, and 90.
