ANNOUNCEMENT 01 Feb 2011In February 2011, the government of Canada announced a change for the labour market access of foreign workers.
NUMBER OF INTERVENTIONS
Citizenship and Immigration Canada. (2011). Operational Bulletin 260 - 5 January 2011. Available at http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/manuals/bulletins/2011/ob260.asp
As of 1 February 2011, Citizenship and Immigration Canada raised minimum salary requirements for IT professionals who seek to work in British Columbia or Quebec by 25 percent or more depending on the exact occupation.
The CIC thereby undercuts the efforts by the two regions to attract foreign IT professionals through an extension of the Labor Market Opinion exemption. The two regions had received a waiver when the exemption was abolished on the national level in October 2010 (see related measure).
