Labour market access

As of 1 October 2010, the government of Canada terminated its simplified entry procedure for foreign IT professionals. Under the scheme, a selected group of IT jobs was exempted from the requirement of a confirmation letter by Human Resources and Social Development Canada assesing a non-negative impact of foreign employment on Canadian citizens' prospects.

From 1 October 2010, this requirement is back in force in form of a Labour Market Opinion.

The only regions that have an exemption from the new regulations are British Columbia and Québec. For IT professionals seeking to work in these regions, the labor market exemption persists until1 January 2012 in British Columbia and 24 February 2012 in Québec.
