Further strengthening its control of so-called strategic industries, the Government of Bolivia nationalized four electricity companies controlled by investors from Bolivia, France, the United Kingdom and . Namely,

  • Corani (50% owned by French GDF Suez),
  • Guaracachi (50% owned by British Rurelec PLC),
  • Valle Hermoso (privately held by Bolivian Generating Group)
  • ELFEC (owned by Bolivian Comteco)

 were nationalised to "recover the energy, the light for all Bolivians" (President Evo Morales).
