On 9 September 2011, the government of India has lifted a ban on exports of non-Basmati rice (notification 71/2010). The export however is only allowed out of privately held stocks and only through Custom EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) ports.
The regulation removes a ban that had initially been imposed in 2007, but has repeatedly been amended for the export of specified quotas of non-Basmati rice.
In order to determine the trading partners, the 2006 data were used, since there was an export ban form 2007-2011.
