On 9 April 2010, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry through Notification No. 38/2009-14 introduced a restriction on exports of cotton yarn.
All exports of cotton yarn henceforth have to be registered with the Textile Commissioner prior to shipment. Shipments will be granted clearance by the Customs authorities only after the registration of contract has been confirmed.
On 22 December 2010, the Ministry enhanced the restriction by requiring exporters to obtain a license for cotton yarn exports effective from 1 December 2010. (see related State Act).
