In June 2010, the government of Brazil announced a change in import duties.

On June 2nd, 2010, the Brazilian government announced tariff increases on the ad-valorem import duty for prepared or preserved sardines from 16% to 32% and for jute from 0% to 8% . These products are classified respectively under the codes 1604.13.10 and 5303.10.10 ofthe Mercosur Common Nomenclature (NCM), respectively.
The average bound tariff of the products concerned is 35%.
It is important to note that the product 5303.10.10 (jute) was on the Brazilian list of exceptions of the Common External Tariff of Mercosur, and now is back to its original rate.
On 25 October 2018, the Brazilian Foreign Trade Council has adopted Resolution 82 revoking 124 resolutions including this one.
