On 5 March 2010, the government of Argentina set export quotas for certain freshwater fish.
Under the new regulation, the export of shal is restricted to 6'500 tons. Export quotas for Leporinus, Hoplias and Pseudplatystoma have been set to zero.
The quotas restrict the export of the mentioned produce until 31 July 2010. The quotas have been implemented as an ecological emergency measure.
