In a November 24, 2014 letter, the Federal Railroad Administration informed Amtrak that it had granted a request for the waiver of Buy America requirements for the purchase of next-generation trainsets. The letter did not indicate in what country these components were to be procured, but the principal foreign supplier of this item is Germany.
