Import tariff

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced a reclassification ruling in the September 21, 2016 edition of Customs Bulletin and Decisions that resulted in the elimination of the tariff applicable to internally padded mats designed to be placed on the ground and subsequently sat, reclined, or laid upon. The item had previously been classified under HTSUS subheadings 6307.90.9889, 6307.90.99, or 6307.90.9050 (each of which are subject to a 7% duty), but CBP has ruled that they may be reclassified under HTSUS subheading 9404.90.20 and thus duty-free. Canada, China, the Dominican Republic, India, Mexico, and Taiwan are the principal suppliers of this product. The final revocation and modification became effective for goods entered or withdrawn from warehouse for consumption on or after November 21, 2016.
