Tax-based export incentive

On 26 August 2016, the Indian Ministry of Commerce and Industry announced a temporary export incentive for onions.
Through Public Notice No. 26/2015-2020, the government grants an export incentive of 5%, of realized Free On Board (FOB) value, on onions under the Merchandise Exports from India Scheme (MEIS). This incentive on onions is valid until 31 December 2016.
 
On 30 December 2016 via Public Notice No. 49/2015-2020 the export incentive was further extended until 31 March 2017. They were later extended on 31 March 2017 until 30 June 2017 through Public Notice 64/2015-2020 and on 30 June 2017 until 30 September 2017 through Public Notice 10/2015-2020.
 
The MEIS provides incentives on product exports, ranging from 2% to 5% on FOB values of exports based on the product and the country they are exported to.
