Labour market access

On 14 May 2009, the Portuguese Council of Ministers announced a reduction of the quota of work permits for non-EU citizens. For 2009, the Portuguese government will admit a maximum of 3'800 non-EU citizens to be hired on a local payroll.
 
In 2008, this maximum had been set at 8'600.
